Volunteering in Portsmouth

The latest Portsmouth City Council volunteering bulletin is available on the council's website at www.portsmouth.gov.uk/yourcouncil/21250.html

There are almost 50 different groups or departments offering volunteering opportunities in:-

  • Conservation Projects & the Environment…
  • Work with Children & Young People…
  • Work with Adults including People with Disabilities & the Elderly…
  • Helping your community…
  • and
  • Arts, Music, Museums & Libraries…

  1. I have read the current list of volunteering opportunities. The majority of opportunities require a high level of expertise, experience or capability which would attract people who have just retired or lost a job and are finding it difficult to get back into work as there is little about. There are very few opportunities which young people without any skills or experience could take and this group needs it most.

    1. A very good point, if anyone is interested in a role, but does not feel that they have enough experience/qualifications, it is suggested that they contact the organisation directly to see if they have any other opportunities that are more suitable.

      Alternatively the national v-inspired website is dedicated to helping young people 14 - 25 years old find suitable volunteering opportunities in a format that they will be comfortable accessing.

      Also the council's Integrated Youth Support Service provides young people with support to access volunteering opportunities through a number of projects including youth centres and the go for it centre.
