Beddow Library Bake-Off 2014

Following the success of last year's Bake-off, the Friends of Beddow Library are organising another one on Friday 1 August from 11am to 2pm. All proceeds will go to the Friends of Beddow Library Fund which exists to improve the library.

They're inviting contestants to enter a cake into the competition and the winners will receive a prize, made by the Beddow Library Craft Club. If you don't want to enter, but just want to buy some of the cake, then that's fine!

Beddow Bake-off Rules

■Age categories are as follows: Child (up to 12 years of age) and Adult, (13 years of age and up). Entrants in the child category may have an adult to assist them in baking their cake as well as completing it

■50p per entry for a child and £1 per entry for an adult

■As much as possible, entries should be the sole work of the entrant

■Cakes are to be prepared at the contestant’s residence and brought to Beddow Library by 10.30am, 1 August 2014

■Cakes must come with a list of ingredients

■All cakes will be sold at the end of the day to raise funds for the Friends of Beddow Library. Alternatively you may prefer to take your cake home, in which case we would appreciate an optional donation towards the Friends of Beddow Library fund

■There will be two categories: small cake (minimum of six small cakes must be entered) and the large cake category. The types of baked goods contestants may enter include sweet pastries, open pies, cakes, biscuits, muffins, scones etc, as the theme is a teatime bake

■Judging will be between 12.30pm and 1pm and all cakes will be judged on presentation, taste and texture. Judging will be done by an independent judge

■The decision of the judge will be final in all matters relating to this contest

The Friends are hoping to compile a recipe booklet based on the event, so if you're happy for your recipe to be included please bring instructions in addition to the ingredients list. For further information or to obtain an entry form, call Beddow Library 023 9273 1848 or email the Friends at denise@rock3207.fsnet.co.uk.

The Friends are also running a biscuit decoration activity for children (50p charge) at the same time.
