Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy Consultation Drop in

Wednesday 29th August will see the first Joint Health & Wellbeing Strategy drop-in in the main reception of the Civic offices.  If you would like to find more about this important strategy or would like to submit your views come along between 12-2pm.

Portsmouth’s Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy

GPs and the council working together for Portsmouth 2012/2013

Portsmouth has a new Health and Wellbeing Board who will decide on the health priorities in the area. The Board includes councillors, GPs, and directors of services. It is jointly chaired by the lead councillor for Health and Social Care and the Lead GP for the Portsmouth Clinical Commissioning Group (which plans and pays for health services). 

One of the Board’s tasks is to produce a Joint Health and Wellbeing strategy for the city. The Board has had lengthy discussions on what the priorities should be. They used information from previous consultations about what people want most, information about what works best, and assessed what the biggest issues facing Portsmouth are. The initial focus is on a small number of big issues where partners believe they can make a real difference by providing and purchasing more effectively. These might not be the biggest health issues in the city but they are areas where we can make the most difference in the next year or so. 

Now we want to know your views on how we are planning to tackle these things and what else we should look at in the future.

Have you ever wondered what happens to your household waste?

Portsmouth ERF, MRF and Collections

Residents in Portsmouth and neighbouring areas are invited to take a look behind the scenes at Portsmouth’s Energy Recovery Facility, Materials Recovery Facility and the collections depot on Monday 29 October. Veolia Environmental Services, operators of the sites, will be holding the special Open Day and all visitors are welcome
.

The event is designed to show how an energy-from-waste facility works and turns waste into a resource. 

During the day visitors can experience:
·                     A behind-the-scenes tour of the three facilities
·                     A visit to the ERF control room
·                     Educational games for younger visitors

As part of a group of between 10 and 12 people, you will be able to discuss a selection of questions relating to the masterplans with planning and community engagement officers.

You will need to have looked at the masterplan documents beforehand, and you need to register to attend these events.

Portsmouth residents help shape city centre and seafront

Residents in Portsmouth are having their say on how the seafront and the city centre should look in years to come.

Portsmouth City Council is asking for your views on blueprints for the two areas, which will lay down how they develop over the next 15 years. 

The blueprints, called masterplans, set out what kind of improvements the council would like to see. When finalised, the documents will help decide planning applications, guide private developers and allocate public-sector investment. 

A leaflet summarising the masterplans is going to all homes in the city this week.

Green Flag Awards

Three of Portsmouth’s parks and open spaces have been recognised by a Green Flag Award this year.

These are Hilsea Lines, Baffins Pond and Milton Park.

Hilsea Lines first won the award in 2010, Baffins Pond won in 2011 and Milton Park has won its award for the first time this year.

Green Flag Awards recognise well-managed, high-quality green spaces.

This success is testament to the efforts of the contractors, friends groups, volunteers and parks department staff who have contributed to the bids and have now been recognised by these prestigious awards.

Portsmouth City Council is seeking your views on improving current and future residents' parking schemes in the city.  There are no plans to remove any existing residents' parking schemes.

The consultation is open until 28 September 2012 and we plan to publish the next steps following this consultation in a later issue of Flagship, along with a summary of responses.
